Les left the John Barry Seven to concentrate on his musical direction and arrangements for artists that he was being offered. His first label was Pye Piccadilly, and his very first artist was Joe Brown. Between them, they produced three hits over the next year or so.  Les formed his own orchestra, the Les Reed Orchestra – their first single being “The Saint”, backed with “Doctor Finlay’s Case Book Theme” for the label, and recorded many singles and albums, which were very well received throughout the world.

Les also produced The Countrymen and Emile Ford for the same label.
